Dreaming Big, Living Fully, and Making an Impact

This week on Proposify Biz Chat, I talk with Cameron Brown of The Thriving Collective. Born and raised in outback Australia, Cameron has turned his dream and passion for helping others into a socially conscious company that empowers people across the globe. His coaching and events are aimed at helping people deepen their connection with themselves and others, which in turn helps them build better companies, live extraordinary lives, and change the world.

What it’s about

Cameron Brown is walking the talk. In 2015, he sold or gave away everything he owned, started to travel the world, and launched the #dreamlivegive project. Cameron believes many people use material things to fill a void in their lives. He wants to show people firsthand that you can be happy with minimal things, and that you can create successful opportunities and relationships no matter where you are in the world using technology, and by being open, vulnerable and authentic.

Takeaways

1. We all need to be more curious

When we’re children we ask a lot of questions, and that helps us learn about the world, but as we get older that curiosity drops off, and therefore, so does our learning. When you have a sense of curiosity about what’s possible, it feeds off itself, driving your potential forward.

2. Beware the shiny thing syndrome

Shiny thing syndrome - where you’re attracted to everything new, different, and exciting - can create confusion, and you never end up dedicating enough time to see something all the way through because you get distracted by that next shiny thing. But curiosity about new things within a structure can be your greatest asset. You need to think, “I know what my mission is, I know what I want to achieve, and I have an absolute sense of curiosity about how I might get there, what it might look like when I arrive, and how much will I exceed my expectations.”

3. If you want to network effectively, you need to show your cards first

If you’re not real in a conversation, you put up barriers right from the start, or you pretend to be something you’re not, the relationship and all the opportunities that might come with it will go nowhere. In the first few minutes of meeting someone you need to demonstrate that you’re not looking to get something from the other person. You need to demonstrate that you want to GIVE to the other person. This will set the tone moving forward to one of generosity and more often than not, it will end up in opportunity.
